Oyster Aquaculture Training, Assistance & Advice
One of the centers of our outreach is ongoing training, assistance and advice to both potential and current oyster farmers. We offer a recurring course, Oyster Farming Fundamentals, to train potential oysters farmers, as well as guest speakers and periodic 'boot camps' to cover important topics in half day sessions. We work closely with Rusty Grice, the oyster aquaculture business specialist with Auburn University.

Gulf of Mexico: FARM model in test farms in the Gulf Coast (Alabama and Louisiana)
July 2014
(C. Saurel & J.G. Ferreira)he primary goal of this work was to assess the environmental effects and optimal production, and inform fieldwork and experimental needs, for shellfish cultivation in the Gulf of Mexico. Two eastern oyster (Crassostrea virginica) test farms were used for this analysis. The objectives of this work were to incorporate field results into the Farm Aquaculture Resource Management (FARM) model to simulate potential harvest, sustainable carrying capacity, economic optimization, key financial data, and positive (e.g. eutrophication abatement) and negative (e.g. biodeposition) externalities at the farm‐scale.
